Patriarchy in Advertisements - 3478 Words

The Use of Patriarchal Love in Print Advertising Patriarchal love was originated around 6000 B.C.E (Hall). It is a part of the popular patriarchal system, in which men are dominant over women. A patriarchal relationship consists of many elements that portray the lack of equality between the two spouses. Those elements have still managed to remain present in a society that has begun to show more devotion for a soulmate relationship, in which both spouses are equal. Print advertisements are one aspect that helps contribute to maintaining patriarchal love. The advertisement shows a man’s giant foot above a woman holding an iron in her hand. It appears that the shoe is going to step on the woman. In patriarchal love, the man is considered to be â€Å"above† the woman and the woman is considered to be â€Å"below† the man. This advertisement literally shows the man’s ideal superiority in which he is much larger than the woman and literally â€Å"above† her. Therefore, she is literally below him. The patriarchal element of fixed gender roles can also be drawn from this advertisement. As previously discussed, one of the main gender roles of a man is to work outside the home and one of the main gender roles of a woman is to work inside the home. Even though only the foot of the man is shown, it is clear that he has on business attire, which portrays the idea that he must be working outside the home. The fact that the woman has an iron in her hand portrays the idea that she must be working inside the home and household af fairs is her occupation. Why You Need To (Or Should) Pay Student Loan Interest In College

Oneglaring aspect ofstudent loans that people tend to overlook is the interest rate on the loan. Here are somereasons you should start paying them off sooner rather than later. If put off too long, they can be a bigger obstacle than you bargained for down the road. Making interest payments on student loans is good idea for a couple of reasons. While it may be a bit of a hassle for a college student, the benefits of doing so far outweigh the cons. The first and foremost reason for paying off interest during college is to save money. The motivation for making these payments early is to avoid capitalization. Capitalization is when unpaid interest is added to the principal balance on a loan. This means the principal balance increases every month which sets the stage for interest to accrue on a greater principal balance each consecutive month. Here is a quick example of capitalization. One month there is a loan with a principal balanceof $1000 and an interest rate of 5%, so $50 is accrued in interest for that month. Next month, the principal balance is taken as $1050, so the next interest accrualcomes out to $52.5. With the previous example, it is clear how capitalization creates a snowball effecton a student loan. If interest payments are not made during college, then new graduates may find themselves with an unmanageable loan. Choosing to make interest payments in college helps reduce the size of this snowball by keeping the principal balance closer to its original disbursement value. You can calculate your savings using thiscalculator. In the end, the borrower will spend less on his or her student loan; additionally, shorter repayment terms often result from this practice. The next motivation for making interest payments during college does not yield the same fiscal return as the previous point; even so, it is just as important. Paying off monthly interest during school fosters a good habit of making monthly payments in general. A significant portion of student loans are not in repayment. This means they are either dubbed as in-school, grace deferment, forbearance, delinquency, or default. Delinquent and defaulted loans are a serious issue. These terms mean that payments are late on a loan, and this is often a result of bad loan payment practices. Avoiding default is important for both the borrower and the lender. Not just for student loans either, it is a paramount for auto loans, mortgages, and credit payments. Many borrowers fall behind on these monthly debt payments, but adhering to monthly interest payments is solid way to start a good habit for the future. Starting interest payments in college creates multiple benefits that apply to the borrower, the lender, and the economy overall. The borrower can form a good habit that ultimately saves him or her money in the long run. The lender receives the desired return on investment which is the whole point from the company perspective. Less strain is felt by the government and tax payers which benefits the economy overall. It may seem ridiculous to say that tackling student loan interest early improves the overall economy. At any rate, it is an excellent method to tackle any form of debt which surely contributes positively to the overall economic situation. One of the best places to start forming these positive habits is in college where most young adults experience their first debt challenge: student loans.

However, this realization doesn?t occur until after much devastation and damage has been caused. The eccentric Miss Havisham is one of these characters that is in constant battle with her emotional past. She uses her bitterness against mankind by adopting a young girl and training her to mechanically break the hearts of men. After many years of seclusion at Satis house, she employs Pip to amuse her and train her adopted daughter, Estella. She uses Estella as a form of torture for Pip since she knows very well that Estella?s attractiveness will lure him in and capture her in his heart. Although Estella is completely inaccessible, Pip is still invited over and leaves the Satis house fully tormented. Miss Havisham?s devious ways give her enjoyment when she watches Pip suffer and yearn for a girl he can?t have. Also, when Pip discovers that he is intended for ?great expectations,? she continues to lead him on making him think that she is the secret benefactor. Miss Havisham merely uses Pip as a pawn to play and exploit with in her game of retaliation. Her role as a complete manipula tor helps her seek revenge to all mankind on account of her misfortunes. Miss Havisham?s fortune quickly alters when things don?t go as she has planned. She watches intently as Estella throws herself at Drummle and realizes that she?s the reason that Estella migrates towards a man of low stature like Drummle. Seeing Pip desolate and extremely hurt makes her feel like she betrays someone so undeserving of this kind of torment. The standards at his common house could never live up to the lifestyle that the Havishams endure. He begins to develop a dislike of the ?commonness? of his lower class home. After being informed of his benefactor, Pip quickly leaves Joe to go to London without hesitation and remorse. As the years go on, he often comes back to visit Estella and Miss Havisham, but purposely avoids going back home. After living such a high class lifestyle, he can?t go back and associate with the common people. Even when Joe comes to visit him in his own home, Pip is completely ashamed of having Joe?s company. He even says, ?If I could have kept him away by paying money, I certainly would have paid money.? He is worrisome about what Herb ert and the other towns people will think if they happen to see Pip and Joe together. Then, as he learns that the convict is the benefactor, he becomes embarrassed and highly ungrateful since it isn?t Miss Havisham as anticipated. Pip?s head becomes so clouded by this new high society that he refuses to accept the people in his past. Statutory Regulations on Consumer rights Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Statutory Regulations on Consumer rights - Essay Example The various legislations related to the consumer law protect the rights of a person as a consumer, whether it is of dispute regarding the sale and purchase of the goods/services, or it is of dispute regarding the quality of the goods. As a consumer, a person's rights are expressed as a series of "guarantees" that a seller automatically makes to you when you buy any good or service ordinarily purchased for personal use. These dictums manifest there always exist an agreement in between the seller and buyer/consumer while entering in a transaction. The parties to commercial contracts were considered to be themselves the best judges of what obligations should be imposed. For the most part the legislation was drafted from the buyer's perspective, and the legislation seems generally to prefer the interests of buyers. But some provision of the sale of goods legislations(1) does not impinge greatly on party autonomy like the Sale of Goods Act 1893 (UK). Even though the buyer enjoys such privileges, the law always ponders to lay down some provisions to regulate the consumer civil rights, amidst of numerous issues regarding the magnitude of the enhancement of such provisions. The provisions regarding the consumer's rights against the seller under sales law are to be found in the Sale of Goods Act 1979, which is the derived version of Sale of goods Act 1863, as amended by the Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994. Sections 12-15 of the Act lays down some implied terms into contracts for the sale of goods relating to title, conformity with description and sample, quality and fitness.
